NBA: Who's In, Who's Out 12/21/16

Posted by CEO | 22 weeks ago

We have eight games on the docket for tonight in the NBA, and two big names won't be suiting up for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Of course, as is the case with a lot of injuries to starters and key players, it opens the door for other players to have some DFS value.

Here's what we know so far, but make sure to check back later for more updates.

NBA Schedule: 12/21/16

Bucks at Cavaliers: 7 p.m. ET

Timberwolves at Hawks: 7:30 p.m. ET

Grizzlies at Pistons: 7:30 p.m. ET

Thunder at Pelicans: 8 p.m. ET

Wizards at Bulls: 8 p.m. ET

Rockets at Suns: 9 p.m. ET

Kings at Jazz: 9 p.m. ET

Mavericks at Blazers: 10 p.m. ET

Who’s In

Derrick Favors - He’ll play on Wednesday night, but Favors is still playing limited minutes. Don’t start him unless you think a shade under 20 minutes is sufficient for him to produce.

Chandler Parsons - Parsons hasn’t played since November 18th, so he’ll surely be on a minutes restriction against the Pistons. Don’t insert him into lineups just yet, even though he will start in his first game back.

Tyreke Evans - Evans was pulled from the injury report, so he’ll almost certainly be out there against the Thunder on Wednesday. Beware, though, he’s going to play 15 minutes max.

Who’s Out

Kevin Love - With Love out, Richard Jefferson will step in as the starter. He hasn’t done much when playing increased minutes, so look elsewhere for help.

J.R. Smith - Not only is Smith out for Wednesday, he’s expected to miss an extended period of time after it was discovered he needs thumb surgery. DeAndre Liggins will start in his place and could have some value as long as Love is sidelined also. Iman Shumpert should see upwards of 30 minutes off the bench and is a DFS punt play.

Dante Exum - He’s dealing with knee tendinitis, so he’ll sit on the second night of a back-to-back. Shelvin Mack will see more minutes and is a decent play in DFS as a result.

Dwight Howard - He'll miss his second straight game with a back issue. Again, Paul Millsap and Dennis Schroeder have increased value with Atlanta needing more offense. Kyle Korver will be slotted into the starting lineup, but is a risky play in all formats.

Rudy Gay - This will be Gay's fourth-straight game missed. Now that he and Casspi are both out, look for Anthony Tolliver to play extended minutes, with Matt Barnes and Aaron Afflalo picking up the slack. Tolliver is a risky play in DFS, while Barnes, who is going to start, is not a viable option.

Evan Turner - This will be Turner's second-straight game missed. Allen Crabbe and Moe Harkless both have fantasy value on Wednesday, as both should see an uptick in minutes with Turner out.
